Peer Led Undergraduate Study

Peer Led Undergraduate Study sessions provide opportunities for students enrolled in traditionally difficult courses to study with peer leaders who have successfully completed the course. PLUS leaders are appropriately trained to facilitate peer help sessions, attend the course each day with the students, and will meet with students several times each week. During these voluntary, structured, learning sessions PLUS leaders will incorporate learning and study strategies while discussing course content presented during the regularly scheduled lecture class.

PLUS supports high-risk courses rather than high-risk students

All students enrolled in a targeted class are encouraged to attend PLUS-not just those struggling

PLUS starts with the first day of classes and continues to the end of the term

PLUS Goals

The goal of PLUS is to help students become independent learners; objectives of such are to:

* Understand what to learn and how to learn
* Successfully complete the course by earning an A, B, or C
* Develop transferable study skills

Why attend PLUS?

With regular attendance, PLUS aims to help students improve their class standing by one-half to one full letter grade. To accomplish this, PLUS helps students to:

* Learn in a relaxed, fun, and collaborative environment
* Understand the demands and expectations of college level work
* Gain problem-solving experience through trial and error
* Become more actively involved in the course
* Develop more effective study skills

The Office of Success Porgrams is currently piloting PLUS sessions in several sections of traditionally challenging courses this semester. To see if PLUS sessions are offered in a course you are taking check the schedule.
